How P-Square inspired me – Davido

Nigerian singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has spoken about the influence of the now-defunct music duo P-Square on his career.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Davido recalled admiring the twin brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye, while he was still in school. He said he viewed their international achievements as evidence of what Nigerian and African artists could accomplish.

“P-Square inspired me. I used to tell my friends in school about how they were two African artistes who had a song with Snoop Dogg and were friends with Kanye West,” he said.

Davido said P-Square’s international reach helped demonstrate that Nigerian artists could build careers beyond the country and influenced his own ambitions in music.

P-Square, made up of Peter and Paul Okoye, became one of Nigeria’s most prominent music duos before their eventual split.
