Manchester City Appoint Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola's Successor

Manchester City have appointed Enzo Maresca as the club’s new head coach following the departure of Pep Guardiola.

Maresca has signed a three-year contract at the Etihad Stadium, with City set to pay more than £17 million (€20 million) in compensation to Chelsea F.C. as part of the agreement.

The 46-year-old previously worked as Guardiola’s assistant during Manchester City’s 2022/23 treble-winning campaign and also guided the club’s Elite Development Squad to the Premier League 2 title in the 2020/21 season.

Speaking after his appointment, Maresca said: “Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me. City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful.”

He added: “This will be my third spell here. I know this club, I know the demands and I know the expectations. I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City.”

Maresca left Chelsea by mutual consent on New Year’s Day after leading the club to the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup titles during his only full season in charge. He also guided the Blues to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League.

Guardiola departed Manchester City at the end of the 2025/26 season after a decade in charge, during which he won 17 major trophies.
