“Someone Told Me He Belongs to a Club of 139 Billionaires in Anambra – I Clapped” – Gov. Soludo
Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has called out the state’s wealthy individuals for their limited investment in youth development and community projects.
Speaking at a Anambra Youth Empowerment programme covered by Channels TV, Gov Soludo shared a recent encounter that sparked his concern. “I was at one funeral in Anambra during the Yuletide season, and when we went into one tent, there were quite a number of who’s who,” he said. “Somebody said to me that he’s in a club of 139 billionaires in Anambra, and I clapped and I said, ‘This is wonderful.'”
However, the governor challenged these claims of wealth, establishing the only criteria for recognizing billionaires in the state. “The only way we know that you are a billionaire in Anambra state is if you show us the roads that you have done, the schools you have done for Anambra state, the hospitals, or how many thousands of youths you have trained and empowered,” he declared.
He set a specific benchmark for wealthy individuals: “If you cannot show us 1,000 youths in Anambra that you have trained and empowered, you are not a billionaire.” The governor dismissed mere monetary claims, emphasizing practical impact: “Money is what money can do,” he stated. “Anybody can say, ‘I have 1 trillion or 10 trillion,’ it means nothing.”
In his call to action, Soludo urged wealthy Anambra citizens to reconsider their priorities. “How many cars will you drive at any point in time? All these are vanities,” he said. “Let us follow our forebearers and those who led the pathway, and let us show that we are the people who value our communities.”
