“Atiku Abubakar Urges Immediate Action to Address Nigeria’s Power Crisis and National Grid Failures”
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for the 2023 presidential election, has voiced his worries about Nigeria’s ongoing power crisis and frequent failures of the national grid, as reported by The Punch.
He criticized the persistent blackouts affecting the South East, North West, and North East regions over the last three weeks and urged relevant government ministries and departments to take immediate action to restore electricity. In a post on his official X.com account, Atiku referenced his policy document, “My Covenant with Nigerians,” which he believes offers the best solutions for addressing the country’s long-standing power challenges.
He emphasized the urgent need for government agencies to intervene and resolve the power outages in the impacted regions.Atiku also proposed the decentralization of the electricity sector, suggesting that states should be given the authority to generate, transmit, and distribute their own electricity.
He highlighted the importance of building supporting transmission and distribution infrastructure to handle increased energy production.Additionally, he reiterated his call for encouraging private investment in establishing various mini-grid systems that could later link up to a national super-grid.
His approach involves a combination of renewable and non-renewable energy sources to boost Nigeria’s energy capacity.
