According to Vanguard, Dr. Oreofe Williams, a filmmaker and author involved in organizing the event, clarified that Alabi’s performance was arranged by Anjorin’s fans living abroad. However, Alabi and her team were reportedly unaware that the event was meant to celebrate Liz Anjorin until they arrived at the venue.

Once she discovered the identity of the celebrant, Alabi opted not to perform, citing personal reasons. She remained in her vehicle and later refunded the agreed sum of N2.5 million, the performance fee that had been paid in advance.

In response to the incident, Liz Anjorin posted a video criticizing Alabi’s refusal to sing at the party, stating that she should not be “bullied into performing.” She also made public the payment receipt as evidence of the prior arrangement.

Dr. Williams stepped in to clarify further, noting that contrary to reports of a N3.5 million fee, the agreed amount was N2.5 million, significantly reduced—by 70%—thanks to his intervention to help facilitate the surprise gesture.

He expressed confusion as to why Anjorin’s identity was withheld during the booking process and noted that such a move led to the misunderstanding. He emphasized that “transparency and integrity must guide all professional agreements,” and warned against manipulative arrangements that could jeopardize reputations.

Alabi’s camp refunded the fee without delay, and Dr. Williams stressed that honesty in contractual dealings is key to preserving trust in professional relationships.
