Court Remands Sowore in Kuje Prison Pending Hearing

Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The order was issued on Monday by Justice Mohammed Umar, who directed that Sowore remain in custody pending the hearing of an application seeking to suspend the court’s earlier decision revoking his bail.
The court also declined Sowore’s request for the judge to withdraw from the case over allegations of bias.
Following the ruling, the matter was adjourned to June 24 for further proceedings on the application filed by his new legal representative, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN).
Sowore arrived at the court premises accompanied by supporters carrying placards before the commencement of the hearing.
The court had previously revoked his bail and issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear for a scheduled court session in an ongoing case.
Sowore is currently facing prosecution by the Department of State Services (DSS) over social media posts in which he allegedly made defamatory remarks about Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. He has denied the allegations.
