Alexis Sánchez Explains His Goal Celebration Against Former Club Barcelona

Sevilla forward Alexis Sánchez has explained why he celebrated after scoring against his former club, FC Barcelona, during Sevilla’s 4-1 victory at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.
According to Barca Universal, the Chilean opened the scoring from the penalty spot in a match that exposed Barcelona’s defensive struggles and lack of attacking sharpness.
Before the game, Sánchez had said he would not celebrate out of respect for Barcelona, where he played between 2011 and 2014. However, he later told reporters that the emotion of the moment overtook him.
“I had said I wouldn’t celebrate, but sometimes the excitement overcomes me, and the desire drives me to do so. In truth, I hold a great deal of love for Barcelona,” Sánchez said in comments reported by Zona Mixta.
His goal followed a VAR-reviewed penalty decision after Sevilla’s Isaac Romero was fouled by Ronald Araujo, a call that drew protests from Barcelona players.
Sánchez’s performance and early goal helped set the tone for Sevilla’s dominant display, handing Barcelona another setback ahead of the international break.
