Police Arrest Man Following Alleged Assault of 18-Year-Old Wife in Lagos

Police have arrested a man accused of assaulting his 18-year-old wife after he was reportedly detained at a Lagos hospital where the victim was receiving treatment for severe injuries.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu confirmed the arrest following a visit to Isolo General Hospital, where the young woman is currently undergoing medical care.

According to Gwamnishu, preliminary investigations indicated that the victim had been living with the suspect since she was 15 years old and allegedly left school as a result of the relationship.

He further stated that despite the alleged abuse, the victim initially resisted efforts to have the suspect arrested, reportedly expressing fears of repercussions from members of his family.

Gwamnishu said the victim is receiving treatment and may require psychological support due to the trauma associated with the alleged abuse.

Police have not yet released further details regarding the case, and investigations are ongoing.
