Burna Boy Becomes First African Artist to Reach 50 Million Monthly Spotify Listeners

Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy, has become the first African artist to surpass 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
The Grammy Award-winning artist reached the milestone on Monday, marking a new record for an African act on the streaming platform.
The achievement was driven largely by “Dai Dai,” his collaboration with Shakira, which has topped Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart for several days.
The success of the song also helped Shakira surpass 100 million monthly Spotify listeners for the first time in her career, making her the second Latin artist to reach the milestone after Bad Bunny.
In addition, the music video for “Dai Dai” became the first released in 2026 to surpass 300 million views on YouTube.
