Yemi Eberechi Alade, professionally known as Yemi Alade, is a Nigerian Afropop singer, songwriter, actress, and performer. She was born on March 13, 1989, in Abia State, Nigeria, and hails from Ondo State through her father.
Yemi Alade first gained national recognition after winning the Peak Talent Show in 2009. She achieved international success in 2013 with the release of her breakout single Johnny, whose music video became one of the most viewed African music videos on YouTube at the time.
Following the success of Johnny, Yemi Alade released several acclaimed projects, including King of Queens (2014), Mama Africa (2016), Black Magic (2017), Woman of Steel (2019), and Empress (2020). Renowned for her energetic stage performances and ability to sing in multiple African languages, she has become one of Africa’s most successful female artists with performances across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
Beyond music, Yemi Alade serves as a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Goodwill Ambassador, using her platform to advocate for gender equality, youth empowerment, and sustainable development across Africa.
