Temilade Openiyi aka Tems
Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, is a Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer, songwriter, and producer born on June 11, 1995, in Lagos State, Nigeria. She studied Economics at Monash South Africa and developed her sound as a self-taught producer.
Tems gained recognition with her 2019 debut single Try Me, followed by her 2020 EP For Broken Ears featuring the hit Damages. She achieved global success with her feature on Wizkid’s Essence and later collaborated with artists like Drake, Future, Rihanna, and Beyoncé.
She won a Grammy in 2023 for her role on Future’s Wait For U and earned an Oscar nomination for her songwriting on Rihanna’s Lift Me Up.
Tems is celebrated for her ethereal voice, neo-soul sound, and emotional storytelling, positioning her as one of Nigeria’s most globally acclaimed artists.
