MNU 2-1 LEI: Fernandes Shines as Man United Beat Leicester, Garnacho and Maguire Make the Difference
It was a dramatic conclusion to a game that had been low on quality, especially from Manchester United, who managed to snatch victory in the dying moments.
Leicester took a deserved lead just before halftime, with De Cordova-Reid putting the visitors ahead. Manchester United struggled in the first half, failing to register a single shot on target.
At the break, Amorim made the tactical decision to bring on Garnacho, whose impact was immediate. He combined with another substitute, Zirkzee, to equalize for United midway through the second half. Garnacho was a constant threat, and Leicester’s defense had no answers for his dynamic runs.
As the match seemed destined for extra-time, Harry Maguire, who had been under scrutiny, found the winner in the final seconds, heading in a beautifully-delivered free-kick from Bruno Fernandes.
Fernandes was deservedly named the Man of the Match after an outstanding display. The Portuguese midfielder, who played the full 90 minutes, completed 84% of his passes, created three chances, and provided the assist for the winning goal.
In the end, despite Leicester’s early dominance, it was Manchester United who came through with a crucial 2-1 victory, propelled by a fantastic team effort.
