Chelsea’s Record-Breaking Bid for Nottingham Forest Star Murillo Blocked
Chelsea made a bold attempt to sign Nottingham Forest’s rising star, Murillo, during the January transfer window, but their efforts were swiftly shut down. According to The Telegraph, the Blues approached Forest with a record-breaking offer for the 22-year-old Brazilian defender, hoping to secure his services early in the window.
Murillo has been one of Nottingham Forest’s standout performers this season, attracting interest from top clubs, including Chelsea. However, Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, refused to negotiate, making it clear that the club had no intention of selling. This rejection meant that Murillo could have surpassed Brennan Johnson’s £47.5 million move to Tottenham as Forest’s most expensive sale.
Chelsea, despite their cautious approach in the transfer market recently, were reportedly willing to break records to bring in Murillo. His consistent defensive displays have made him one of the most sought-after young talents in the Premier League.
With Forest determined to keep him and reportedly offering him a lucrative new contract, Chelsea’s pursuit appears to have stalled for now. As they prepare for their FA Cup clash against Brighton, the Blues may still look for defensive reinforcements before the window closes.
