Wike Urges Fubara To Be Clear And Honest With President Tinubu

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State to clearly communicate his intentions to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, rather than behaving in ways that appear contradictory.

In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, on Saturday, Wike stressed the need for honesty and consistency in resolving political conflicts, according to Channels Television.

“It is not enough to visit people and plead for peace. Those who genuinely want peace must also act in line with that goal,” Wike said.

He criticized actions allegedly linked to Fubara’s camp, particularly the behavior of a group of women who reportedly walked out during the Renewed Hope Initiative event organized by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in Port Harcourt. Wike found the incident “embarrassing” and offered an apology on behalf of Rivers people.

“You cannot claim to seek peace while simultaneously sponsoring people to insult the President and the First Lady,” he stated.
“Any insult directed at a representative of the First Lady is a direct insult to the Office of the President. As a leader in Rivers, I apologize.”

Speaking from China, where he is currently on an official assignment, Wike expressed his concern over the walkout, describing it as “very disturbing,” and warned Fubara’s loyalists against actions that could bring the state into disrepute.

This episode marks another flashpoint in the ongoing political rift between Wike and his successor, Siminalayi Fubara.
