Wike Missing as FCT Minister of State Pushes N200 Billion Mega Projects at FEC Meeting
In a recent video shared on Symfoni tv, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held on Monday saw the notable absence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, even as the Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, presented project proposals worth over N200 billion for approval.
Wike, who has been actively overseeing major infrastructural projects in the FCT, was expected to lead discussions on the proposals but was not in attendance. His absence raised speculations, though no official reason was given by the FCT ministry or the presidency.
Despite Wike’s absence, Dr. Mahmoud took charge of the presentations, seeking FEC’s approval for a range of critical projects aimed at improving Abuja’s infrastructure. Sources within the meeting disclosed that the proposed projects include road rehabilitation, urban renewal initiatives, and key housing developments designed to enhance the capital’s aesthetics and functionality.
The proposals come as part of the administration’s broader strategy to transform Abuja into a world-class city, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Recent months have seen an aggressive push by the FCT administration to fast-track development, particularly in road construction and sanitation efforts.
While it remains unclear why Wike missed the meeting, political analysts suggest that internal dynamics within the FCT administration or pressing engagements elsewhere might be factors. However, sources close to the ministry indicate that his absence did not impact the progress of deliberations, as Dr. Mahmoud ably represented the FCT’s interests.
With FEC’s consideration of the proposals, all eyes are on the government’s next steps, particularly in securing funding and ensuring timely execution of these projects. The outcome of the approvals will determine how soon residents of the FCT can expect improvements in infrastructure and urban services.
As of press time, there has been no official statement from Wike or his office regarding his absence from the meeting.
