Sultan of Sokoto Urges Leaders to Engage Omoyele Sowore, Mentions Possibility of Future Presidency

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Nigerian leaders to engage rather than silence activist and politician Omoyele Sowore. His remarks were captured in a video published by Sahara TV on Friday, December 5, 2025.
Speaking at a public event, the Sultan addressed Sowore directly, referring to him as “President Sowore,” and emphasized the importance of allowing critics to express their views. “The more you allow somebody to bring out what is in their chest, the better for you and him,” he said.
The Sultan noted that he had not expected to see Sowore at the event and welcomed the opportunity to hear his perspectives on governance.
He cautioned against suppressing dissenting voices, stating that such an approach is counterproductive. The Sultan added that Sowore could potentially become president in the future, a comment interpreted by many as a call for political openness and inclusivity.
