Shehu Sani Criticizes Northern Senators for Ineffectiveness on Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills: “They’re Just Rambling”

Shehu Sani, former senator from Kaduna, has called on northern elites, particularly senators, to approach President Bola Tinubu’s proposed tax reform bills with a more open-minded and constructive attitude. Sani argued that the reforms represent an opportunity for Nigeria to reset and reshape its economy.
He urged lawmakers to avoid emotional reactions and uninformed opinions, stressing that such responses do not contribute to meaningful dialogue on the matter.
Sani’s comments came in response to the heated debates surrounding the tax reform bills, with some senators openly opposing them. One senator even admitted to not reading the bills before commenting. Sani encouraged his colleagues to engage with the content of the reforms thoughtfully.
While some, including former Governor Babangida Aliyu, Senator Sani, and other public figures, have voiced support for the tax reforms, there remains significant opposition. Critics argue that the reforms could burden the population and negatively impact the economy. Sani’s call for informed discussions aims to steer the debate toward more productive engagement on the issue.
