Senator Natasha Akpoti Speaks Out on Harassment and Challenges in the Senate
Senator Natasha Akpoti has revealed that she is facing persistent harassment and obstacles that have made it difficult for her to carry out her duties effectively. Despite these challenges, she has chosen to remain silent to avoid misinterpretation or potential lawsuits.
Speaking in an interview with Brekete Family, a well-known human rights program, Natasha shared that many of her senatorial privileges have been taken away. She disclosed that she was excluded from international engagements she was originally scheduled to attend and that her seating position in the Senate was changed, seemingly to suppress her visibility and voice.
Expressing her frustration, she stated:
“I am facing a lot of harassment. I have been going through a lot, and I have remained quiet because I didn’t want to be interpreted wrongly, I didn’t want any lawsuit against me. I just wanted to be given a chance to work. A lot of my privileges have been denied. I have been pulled out of many international activities that I was part of.”
