Presidency Dismisses Babachir Lawal’s Claim of Peter Obi’s 2023 Election Victory

The Presidency has rejected claims by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, that Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, won the 2023 presidential election.
In a televised interview with Channels TV, Lawal alleged that Obi defeated President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, but the results were altered. The statement has stirred political debate and reactions on social media.
Responding via his official X account, Sunday Dare, Senior Special Adviser on Public Communication to President Tinubu, described Lawal’s assertion as false.
“Your claim that Peter Obi won the 2023 elections is not only egregious but a barefaced lie. The people have spoken, the law has sanctioned it,” Dare said.
He noted that the election results were challenged in court, but the judiciary upheld Tinubu’s victory, confirming the legitimacy of the process.
The Presidency reiterated its position that the 2023 election outcome was legally validated and warned against spreading unverified claims that could undermine public trust in democratic institutions.
