Magnus Abe Cautions Governor Diri Over Alleged Moves to Block Pro-Wike Rally in Bayelsa

Senator Magnus Abe has issued a warning to Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, urging him to stop what he described as unnecessary efforts aimed at halting a planned rally in support of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, scheduled for April 12.
Taking to his verified Facebook page, Abe criticized the alleged use of Bayelsa’s state resources to oppose an event that Wike himself has publicly stated he would not attend. According to The Nation, the Senator expressed surprise that the Bayelsa government continued to hold press briefings and pursue legal action against the rally, despite Wike distancing himself from it.
Abe questioned the rationale behind spending public funds to suppress a peaceful gathering, suggesting that the money could be better invested in addressing the needs of Bayelsa residents.
He also reminded Governor Diri of the constitutional right to freedom of movement, stressing that Wike, like any Nigerian, has the right to travel and visit any part of the country — including Bayelsa.
Abe said, “Just like Governor Diri is free to go to Port Harcourt or Abuja, Wike can also go to Bayelsa whenever he likes.”
He called for de-escalation and mutual respect among political leaders in the South-South, proposing a simple resolution: “Why not just pick up the phone and call him?” he suggested, encouraging dialogue over confrontation.
Abe concluded by urging leaders to work together for regional peace and avoid unnecessary political drama and wasteful spending.
