Fubara Responds to Supreme Court Ruling: “I’m Not Concerned” About the Judgment

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed concerns regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling on the 2024 budget appeal, asserting that the decision to withdraw the case was intentional and inconsequential to his administration.
Fubara explained that since the 2024 budget cycle ended on December 31, 2024, the appeal had lost its relevance. He called the legal challenge redundant and said withdrawing it was the most practical decision.
In a statement from the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, Fubara emphasized that continuing with the case would have been a waste of judicial resources. He added, “The appeal served no practical purpose, and the most sensible action was to withdraw it, leading to its dismissal.”
Addressing political reactions, Fubara downplayed claims that the Supreme Court ruling was a setback for his administration. He remarked, “The Supreme Court has an important role to play in our legal system, and it would be irresponsible to clog its docket with cases that serve no meaningful function. Unfortunately, certain individuals are celebrating something that has no real significance.”
Fubara clarified that the Supreme Court did not issue a ruling against him but merely acknowledged his voluntary withdrawal of the appeal, as the 2024 budget had already been fully executed.
Meanwhile, allies of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, have refrained from making public comments, citing the sensitivity of the issue.
