US Embassy Announces Updated Visa Guidelines for Nigerian Applicants
The US Embassy in Nigeria has announced a revised visa application procedure for Nigerians seeking immigrant visas, set to commence on January 1, 2025. This updated process, exclusive to immigrant visa applicants, requires two visits to the US Consulate General in Lagos.
The first visit will involve an In-Person Document Review with consular staff, where applicants can ensure their documentation is complete and submit any missing paperwork. This step aims to address potential issues early, preventing delays during the application process.
The second visit will be the Visa Interview conducted by a Consular Officer, scheduled through the National Visa Center. This interview is the final step in determining eligibility for an immigrant visa.
The Embassy clarified that the new procedure is designed to streamline the application process, improve efficiency, and reduce delays caused by incomplete or missing documents. However, it applies only to immigrant visas, such as family-sponsored or employment-based visas, and does not affect non-immigrant visa applicants (e.g., tourist or business visas).
This initiative is expected to enhance the structure of the immigrant visa process in Nigeria, ensuring better preparation for applicants and more efficient application processing by the Embassy.
