Pastor Poju Oyemade Explains That Fasting Isn’t Always About Going on a Dry Fast
In a recent YouTube video, Pastor Poju Oyemade, Senior Pastor of The Covenant Nation, offered practical insights into the subject of fasting, shedding light on its flexible application and spiritual significance for believers.
Pastor Oyemade explained that fasting is a powerful tool that enhances spiritual efforts and increases divine results, but it is not confined to the rigorous practice of a dry fast. He referenced the biblical account where Jesus told His disciples, “This type cannot go out except by prayer and fasting,” to highlight the necessity of fasting in certain spiritual situations.
“Fasting doesn’t always mean going on a dry fast,” Pastor Oyemade clarified. Drawing inspiration from Daniel’s example in the Bible, he encouraged believers to adopt a fasting method that suits their circumstances, such as abstaining from specific foods or consuming only fluids throughout the day. “You can just take fluids for the whole day so that you remain light and sensitive to hear God concerning the issue,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of combining fasting with the confession of God’s Word, noting that fasting amplifies the effectiveness of spiritual practices. “You don’t have to wait for a specific sign to fast—just fast and confess,” he stated, emphasizing that the combination yields faster and more effective results.
Pastor Oyemade highlighted the progressive nature of fasting, explaining that as believers fast, they gain spiritual revelation, which often inspires them to continue fasting for greater insight. “As you fast, light begins to come, and you may desire to push that light further by continuing the fast,” he said.
Believers were encouraged to embrace fasting as a lifestyle and not as a rigid ritual. According to Pastor Oyemade, fasting, when approached sincerely and purposefully, positions believers to experience divine guidance and breakthroughs.
