Lagos Local Government Chairman Passes Away While in Office, Following in the Footsteps of His Predecessor
The Chairman of the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, Hon. Oladotun Olakanle, has passed away.Known as Tant’olorun, Olakanle’s death mirrors that of his predecessor, Babatunde Oke, who also died while in office.
Olakanle succeeded Oke, who passed away in August 2020, while serving as Vice Chairman.Elected for a four-year term in 2021, Olakanle had been committed to his role.In a condolence message from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Olakanle’s passing is characterized as a significant loss for the Onigbongbo LCDA, the ruling APC, and Lagos State as a whole.
The governor expressed his sorrow, noting that Olakanle was a devoted party member, a committed democrat, and a public servant with a strong grasp of local government operations and politics.“On behalf of my family, the residents, and the Lagos State Government, I extend my sincere condolences to the community of Onigbongbo LCDA for the loss of our council Chairman, Hon. Oladotun Olakanle.
His passing is a personal loss for me and a significant loss for both his council and Lagos State.“I am deeply saddened by the loss of this esteemed gentleman, a dedicated party member, and an essential public servant who understood the intricacies of local governance and the political landscape.“Hon. Olakanle was a steadfast politician and a vital asset to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His absence will be felt throughout the political community, particularly in the Onigbongbo LCDA, the Lagos APC, and the state as a whole.
“As Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, Olakanle showed unwavering commitment to the council’s progress and welfare, which was reflected in the initiatives he led and the notable achievements of his administration over the past four years.“He will be remembered for his lasting impact and positive contributions to the development and growth of the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area,” the governor stated.
