JUST IN: German President Steinmeier Arrives in Nigeria for Bilateral Talks and Cultural Engagements
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday night for a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in the economic, cultural, and social spheres.
Steinmeier was welcomed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
During his visit, Steinmeier is scheduled to meet with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Alieu Omar Touray. Their discussions will focus on regional security, economic development, and ways to deepen Germany-Nigeria partnerships.
After his time in Abuja, Steinmeier will travel to Lagos, where he will participate in various events highlighting Nigeria’s business, cultural, and urban development sectors. His agenda in Lagos includes:
- Engaging with business leaders to explore investment opportunities.
- Visiting a start-up hub to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.
- Meeting cultural figures such as Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.
Additionally, Steinmeier will take a city tour of Lagos to better understand the urban challenges, particularly in relation to environmental and social issues.
This visit reflects the growing ties between Nigeria and Germany, and Steinmeier’s trip will conclude on December 12, 2024.
