Fasting Continues in Nigeria as Moon Remains Unseen – Sultan of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has stated that fasting in Nigeria may continue, as the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan has not yet been sighted.

In a statement on Saturday, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) urged Muslims to look for the Shawwal moon on the 29th day of Ramadan. According to NSCIA Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, if the moon is sighted following Islamic verification standards, the Sultan will officially declare Sunday, March 30, 2025, as Eid al-Fitr.

The council emphasized that the moon sighting process follows strict guidelines and relies on credible testimonies before an official decision is made. Muslims were also encouraged to remain patient and continue their religious observances.

Until an official announcement is made, Muslims in Nigeria are advised to continue fasting and follow Islamic guidelines on moon sighting.
