NLC Calls for Nationwide Boycott of MTN, Glo, Airtel Over Tariff Hike
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has called on Nigerians to boycott the services of major telecommunications companies—MTN, Glo, and Airtel—following a recent 50% tariff increase.
In a statement released on Wednesday, February 12, NLC President Joe Ajaero announced that the boycott would start on Thursday, February 13, 2025, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm daily until the end of February. The NLC is demanding an immediate reversal of the tariff hike, insisting that the previous rates should remain in place until discussions are concluded and a final agreement is reached.
Ajaero criticized the Federal Government for failing to protect citizens from corporate exploitation and warned that if the tariff increase is not rolled back by February 29, 2025, the NLC would escalate the protest by initiating a nationwide telecom shutdown starting March 1, 2025.
“If the tariff hike is not reversed by February 29, 2025, the NLC will commence a nationwide telecom shutdown from March 1, 2025,” Ajaero stated.
