Michael Owusu Addo, known professionally as Sarkodie, is a Ghanaian rapper, songwriter, entrepreneur, and record executive. He was born on July 10, 1985, in Tema, Greater Accra Region, Ghana.
Sarkodie is widely regarded as one of Africa’s most successful and influential hip-hop artists. He began his music career as an underground rapper, gaining recognition through rap competitions and radio appearances before breaking into the mainstream with his debut album Makye in 2009. The album produced several hit singles and established him as one of Ghana’s leading music stars.
Known for his exceptional rap delivery in both English and Twi, Sarkodie has released numerous acclaimed projects, including Rapperholic, Sarkology, Mary, Highest, Black Love, and Jamz. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with leading African and international artists, helping to elevate African hip-hop on the global stage.
Beyond music, Sarkodie is the founder of Sarkcess Music, a record label that has nurtured several artists and contributed significantly to Ghana’s music industry. He is also recognized for his philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and influence on contemporary African culture.
With numerous chart-topping songs and international accolades, Sarkodie is widely considered one of the greatest African rappers of all time and one of Ghana’s most decorated musicians.
