Tinubu Hails Delta Defections to APC as ‘Political Tsunami of Unimaginable Proportions’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated the mass defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and the state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) structure to the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it a “political tsunami” unlike anything seen before.
Speaking at the official defection event held at the Cenotaph in Asaba, Delta State—where he was represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima—Tinubu described the event as a monumental shift in the political landscape of both the South-South region and Nigeria as a whole.
“What can be greater than the promise of this day? This is a political tsunami of unimaginable proportions that has never happened in the history of the South-South and this country,” Tinubu stated. “A political tsunami where all the members of the upper chamber of the National Assembly are in the APC, along with so many members of the House of Representatives, the governor, his entire cabinet, and 500 councillors across the 25 local government areas of this great state.”
The defections mark the end of nearly 26 years of PDP dominance in Delta State and represent a major boost for the APC’s influence in the South-South zone.
The event drew a large crowd of political heavyweights, including APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje and Governors Hope Uzodinma (Imo), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Bassey Otu (Cross River), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Ahmed Ododo (Kogi), Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Dikko Radda (Katsina), and Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe).
Others present included former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo, and Senators Ned Nwoko, Joel Onowakpo-Thomas, and Ede Dafinone, among others.
President Tinubu also praised former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for maintaining a “wonderful” relationship with Governor Oborevwori, describing him as a “great leader.”
