Senator Natasha Speaks Out After Armed Attack on Her Family Home in Kogi
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has broken her silence following a frightening attack on her family home in Ihima, Kogi State. The lawmaker, who represents Kogi Central in the National Assembly, disclosed that the incident took place on Tuesday night when armed men stormed her late grandfather’s residence in Obeiba-Ihima.
According to a statement released by her media team and reported by The Punch on April 17, 2025, the assailants mistakenly believed the senator was in town and targeted the house. “Two days ago, my younger brother took some contractors to my hometown in Ihima to inspect locations for upcoming projects that I attracted to my senatorial district,” she explained. “The unknown gunmen assumed I was the one in town and attacked my family’s house that night.”
Thankfully, no casualties were reported. Senator Natasha credited the swift intervention of local security operatives and community members for averting tragedy. “Thankfully, the civil defence team and community members responded promptly and chased them off,” she said.
In response to the attack, she confirmed that a formal complaint had been lodged with the area police command. Her team also appealed directly to the Inspector General of Police, urging the reinstatement of her security details. “We urge the Inspector General of Police to immediately reinstate my security details,” the statement read.
The attack has triggered concern among residents and political analysts alike, particularly given Natasha’s growing influence and her ongoing efforts to implement development projects in Kogi Central. Her media team encouraged the public to stay calm, stating that violence should not derail progress. They stressed that such acts should not be used as tools to intimidate leaders committed to bringing positive change.
As investigations continue, many supporters are demanding a thorough inquiry and enhanced security measures to prevent similar incidents. The attack underscores growing concerns over the safety of public officials and the urgent need to protect politicians working directly with their communities.
