Ebute Criticizes Senator Natasha, Accuses Her of Trying to Turn NASS Into a ‘European Parliament’
Former Senate President Ameh Ebute has weighed in on the ongoing dispute between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, attributing the controversy to individual personalities rather than systemic issues.
Ebute condemned Senator Natasha’s decision to involve international organizations such as the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, describing it as an unpatriotic move aimed at blackmailing the National Assembly. He stressed Nigeria’s sovereignty, stating that international bodies have limited influence over the country’s internal affairs.
He further suggested that Natasha’s approach and statements may have contributed to the alleged harassment she faced. According to him, seeking external intervention is ineffective and could be likened to trying to transform the National Assembly into a “European Parliament.”
In his view, the consequences of the controversy stem from the behavior of National Assembly members toward its leadership rather than any deeper institutional problem.
