INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, Refuses to Comply with Court Order to Produce Documents

A few hours ago, renowned lawyer and Labour Party chieftain, Barrister Kenneth Okonkwo took to social media to allege how the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmud Yakubu has tried to frustrate the petition filed by Peter Gregory Obi.
While providing an update on Wednesday’s proceedings at the Presidential Election Tribunal via his Twitter handle, Okonkwo, who is a member of the Labour Party’s legal team, explained that though reports from INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IREV) and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) for twenty-eight states were submitted by lawyers during the proceedings, the five-man panel of Appeal Court judges was informed that Professor Yakubu has refused to be served a legal order (Subpoena) to provide certain documents needed by both the Labour Party and Peter Obi’s legal team to keep building their case at the Tribunal.
He wrote; “We tendered the BVAS reports and certificate of compliance of 28 states including the FCT, the petitioners drew the attention of the court to the refusal/failure of INEC Chairman to be served with the subpoena to produce certain documents in court. We are hoping they will comply immediately as promised by their Lead Counsel.”
