JUST IN: Nigerian Police Transfer Musician Speed Darlington to Abuja as DIG Assumes Control of Case

Nigerian musician Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington “Akpi,” has been transferred from Owerri, Imo State, to Abuja by the Nigeria Police Force, with his case now overseen by Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Dasuki Galadanchi of the Force Intelligence Department (FID).
Sources revealed that DIG Galadanchi personally took over Darlington’s case, allegedly dissatisfied with the leniency of the musician’s prior treatment and bail. Darlington, initially detained in Abuja, is now facing additional scrutiny from the FID.
The arrest and ongoing detention have sparked controversy, with human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju accusing Afrobeat star Burna Boy of orchestrating the police action against Darlington. Adeyanju criticized Burna Boy for allegedly using his influence against Darlington, calling it hypocritical given Burna Boy’s reputation for speaking out against oppression.
According to reports, Darlington was initially arrested on allegations of cyberstalking Burna Boy, based on a petition submitted by the musician. Despite this, Adeyanju argued that the petition lacks sufficient grounds to justify Darlington’s arrest and has vowed to secure his release.
The incident highlights a growing debate over the abuse of influence and legal processes in Nigeria’s entertainment and legal circles.
