Grammy Events Canceled to Support Los Angeles Wildfire Victims
In a statement shared on Instagram, the group expressed gratitude to first responders and emergency personnel for their relentless efforts. They emphasized their commitment to assisting artists, teams, and residents affected by the devastating fires, noting that Los Angeles is home to many in the music industry.
The cancelled events include the artist showcase and the traditional Grammy after-party. The decision was made to redirect resources to aid wildfire victims, as over 180,000 residents have been displaced by the disaster.
Nigerian celebrities, including actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and reality TV star Faith Morey, have been personally affected. Omotola recently returned to Nigeria after evacuating her US residence, while Faith Morey shared a video recounting her stressful 20-minute evacuation.
The Grammy Awards have strong ties to Nigeria, with past winners like Wizkid and Burna Boy representing the country on the global stage. Despite the importance of these events, Universal Music Group prioritized supporting those in need during this crisis.
