Van Dijk Snubs Richarlison’s Handshake, Leaves Him Embarrassed As Liverpool Crush Spurs

Liverpool secured their record-equalling 20th English top-flight title in style, hammering Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield. The win made Arne Slot only the sixth manager to claim a Premier League title in his first season at a club, and marked Liverpool’s first championship celebration with fans in the stands since 1990.

Despite a charged atmosphere before kick-off, the Reds were caught off guard early when former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke headed in James Maddison’s corner in the 12th minute. It was just the third goal Liverpool had conceded from a corner all season and briefly quieted the Anfield faithful.

Liverpool didn’t take long to respond. Just four minutes later, Mohamed Salah set up Dominik Szoboszlai, who squared the ball for Luis Díaz to slot home, marking his 100th Premier League appearance with a goal. With momentum swinging their way, Liverpool’s pressing game paid off again when Alexis Mac Allister fired a stunning shot past Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario after winning possession high up the pitch.

Tottenham struggled to handle Liverpool’s intensity and fell further behind before halftime. A poor clearance from a corner allowed Cody Gakpo to find space and calmly finish into the bottom corner, making it 3-1.

After the break, Liverpool continued to dominate. Gakpo unselfishly looked to set up Salah instead of shooting himself, and though the chance was missed, Salah found the net soon after. On the hour mark, Salah — who hadn’t scored in his previous six games — drilled a clinical finish at the near post following a swift counterattack initiated by Szoboszlai.

Liverpool’s big afternoon was capped when Destiny Udogie inadvertently turned Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross into his own net, sealing the 5-1 rout. It was Liverpool’s 15th goal against Tottenham across all competitions this season and extended Spurs’ miserable run to 16 straight games without a win at Anfield.
