Jose Peseiro tips Cote d’Ivoire as favourite to win AFCON final

The final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire is a good advertisement for the tournament and for football on the continent.

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has been speaking tough ahead of the game but he believes that the host nation are favourite to win the tournament. However, he believes that this is Nigeria’s trophy.

“Congratulations to Cote d’Ivoire for reaching the final, they are the favourite, but we want to win the AFCON. I want to win the afcon for the people of Nigeria.”

He also spoke about the influence of Ahmed Musa in the squad despite not having played any minute in the competition.

“Ahmed Musa is special and important to the team. He is my assistant, he advises me, he gives me the necessary support. He is committed in his role and he can play. We shall wait and see tomorrow, but we want to win the AFCON for Musa to lift the trophy.”

Nigeria booked their spot in the final game by beating South Africa on penalties in the semi-final while Cote d’Ivoire defeated DR Congo to reach the final.
