EPL: Two Clubs Fire Managers Following Recent Defeats
Two Premier League clubs, Wolves and Southampton, have sacked their managers following disappointing results over the weekend.
Wolves dismissed Gary O’Neil and his backroom staff on Sunday after a 2-1 home defeat to Ipswich Town. Wolves Chairman Jeff Shi expressed gratitude for O’Neil’s efforts, stating, “We’re very grateful to Gary for all of his effort, dedication, and hard work during his time at the club, and we wish him and his team the best of luck for the future.” O’Neil had taken charge of the team just three days before the start of the 2023/24 season.
Meanwhile, Southampton parted ways with Russell Martin on Sunday night after a heavy 5-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur. Despite guiding the Saints to promotion last season, Martin has struggled to replicate success in the Premier League. The defeat marked Southampton’s 13th loss in 16 games this season, leaving them at the bottom of the table with only one win, recorded against Everton in November.
