Workers' Day: Nlc Vows Not To Salute Rivers Sole Administrator — Joe Ajaero

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has weighed in on the escalating political turmoil in Rivers State, vowing that the labour union will not recognize the newly appointed sole administrator, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, during the upcoming Workers’ Day celebrations.

The political crisis, which stems from the rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, intensified after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly declared a state of emergency in the state. This move led to the suspension of the governor and his deputy, and the installation of Ibas as the sole administrator.

In a video shared online, Ajaero criticized the appointment and expressed the union’s displeasure over Ibas’s handling of workers’ welfare, particularly his reported decision to halt pension and gratuity payments to workers in the state.

“NLC will not allow the sole administrator to take salute,” Ajaero firmly stated, making it clear that the congress will boycott Ibas during the Workers’ Day parade as a form of protest against what it sees as unjust treatment of Rivers State workers.
