Shehu Sani Reacts as IBB Blames Abacha for Annulment of 1993 Election
Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has responded to ex-Head of State Ibrahim Babangida’s claim that the late General Sani Abacha was responsible for the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
Taking to his official X handle, Shehu Sani expressed skepticism over Babangida’s statement, noting that Abacha is no longer alive to defend himself.
He wrote:
“Unfortunately, Abacha is not alive to state his own side of the story.”
Babangida recently admitted that MKO Abiola of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) won the election, acknowledging regret over the annulment. However, he claimed that pressures within his administration, particularly from forces loyal to Abacha, led to the controversial decision.
