Rivers: Fubara Publicly Declares He Won’t Comply with Court Ruling, Says Nyesom Wike
Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his decision to move forward with local government elections in the state, despite a court ruling that barred the elections.
During an interview on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, Wike accused Governor Fubara of openly defying the court by announcing on national television that he would not follow the court’s judgement.
Wike expressed concern that Fubara’s actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for the rule of law, setting a worrying example for governance in Rivers State. He also pointed out that Fubara downplayed the court’s decision, arguing that the ruling did not specifically prohibit the local government elections.
Furthermore, Wike alleged that Fubara went even further by asserting that he could hold the elections without the need for law enforcement to oversee the process.According to Wike, this statement not only disrespected the judiciary but also dismissed the crucial role that security forces play in ensuring orderly elections.
The former governor raised alarm that Fubara’s refusal to comply with the court’s ruling could result in unnecessary chaos and violence.Wike concluded by warning that the governor’s handling of the elections could heighten tensions and endanger public safety. He added, “Governor Fubara went on national TV and said he would not obey the court’s judgement.
He even claimed the court didn’t ban the elections and that he didn’t need the police to conduct them. When someone says that, they are inviting violence.”
