Prof. Sedeeque Abba Criticises Trump’s Remarks on Killings of Christians in Nigeria

Professor Sedeeque Abba has criticised former U.S. President Donald Trump over his recent comments on the killings of Christians in Nigeria, describing the remarks as selective and politically motivated.

Speaking in an interview on Trust TV, Abba referenced past U.S. military interventions, particularly the 2003 invasion of Iraq, noting that millions of Christians lived in Iraq before the conflict.

“When the U.S. invaded Iraq for weapons of mass destruction, millions of Christians lived there,” he said, questioning why similar empathy was not shown when American military operations devastated Iraq and other Middle Eastern countries.

He explained that the invasion—justified by false claims—destroyed communities, displaced families, and killed thousands, including Christians. “If America truly cared about Christians,” Abba added, “they would have protected them in Iraq, Syria, and other war-torn places where their actions caused chaos.”

Abba further argued that Trump’s concern for Nigerian Christians appeared to serve political interests rather than humanitarian motives. He maintained that Nigeria’s internal issues should be addressed domestically, without foreign interference.

“No patriotic citizen should clap when another nation talks about using force on our soil,” he cautioned.

The professor concluded by urging Nigerian leaders to promote unity, justice, and national interest, stressing that peace and development can only be achieved through responsible leadership and mutual respect among citizens.
