Oby Ezekwesili Reacts to Natasha Akpoti’s Final Statement Before Suspension from NASS
Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has weighed in on the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, reacting to the last words the lawmaker uttered before exiting the National Assembly.
The Senate had earlier suspended Akpoti for six months, citing a violation of Senate rules. Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the decision, stating:
“That the Senate do suspend Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months for her total violation of the Senate Standing Rules (2023) as amended for bringing the presiding officer and the entire Nigerian Senate to public opprobrium.”
However, before leaving, Akpoti reportedly made a bold statement: “The injustice shall not be sustained.”
Ezekwesili’s Reaction
Reacting via her official X handle, Oby Ezekwesili praised Akpoti’s words, emphasizing their significance. She wrote:
“The wise among them will be haunted by this until her words surely come to pass. The unwise among them will not even understand what she said. For all of us that care about our democratic processes and principles, we are glad.”
Her statement has further fueled discussions on the circumstances surrounding Akpoti’s suspension, with many questioning whether the move was politically motivated.
Political Reactions
Akpoti’s suspension has sparked debates among political observers and the public, with supporters arguing that it was an attempt to silence opposition voices in the Senate. Meanwhile, others believe the disciplinary action was justified.
As the controversy unfolds, many will be watching to see if Akpoti’s prediction of injustice not being sustained comes to pass.
