Northern Coalition Announces Plans to Challenge Tinubu in 2027 with a New Political Party

A group of northern politicians, under the banner of Team New Nigeria (TNN), has announced its intention to establish a new political party to contest President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at the inauguration of TNN’s harmonization committee in Kano, the group’s national president, Modibbo Yakubun Farakwai, expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He described their earlier support for the APC as a mistake, citing failures in addressing critical national issues, including security, poverty, and unemployment.
Farakwai outlined their grievances:
- Insecurity: A failure to ensure safety across the nation, with increasing lawlessness and violence.
- Economic hardship: Rising poverty and unemployment, coupled with a declining standard of living and crumbling infrastructure.
- Government insensitivity: A lack of responsiveness to the suffering of Nigerians.
The coalition has taken significant steps toward establishing their new party, submitting its constitution, manifesto, logo, and flag to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for approval. Farakwai urged INEC to remain impartial during the registration process and stressed TNN’s mission to reshape Nigeria’s political future.
“Our goal is to build a true democratic Nigeria and provide a credible alternative to the current political structure,” Farakwai declared. The coalition believes their new party will address the nation’s challenges and bring meaningful change in 2027.
