“Doyin Okupe: Obi’s Statement Was Offensive; I Left Everything to Support Him as a Yoruba Man”
1. Doyin Okupe Announces He Will No Longer Support Peter Obi According to a report by Vanguard Newspaper on Tuesday, November 5, Doyin Okupe, who previously served as the spokesperson for a past presidential candidate, revealed that he would no longer support Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State. Okupe had initially served as the director of Obi’s presidential campaign but stepped down after being convicted in a money laundering case. He eventually resigned from the Labour Party after the elections.
Okupe Shifts Allegiance to President Bola Tinubu Since his departure from the Labour Party, Okupe has become a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. His criticism of Peter Obi has grown, particularly after Obi made comments about the economic struggles facing the South-West region, which is Tinubu’s home base.
Okupe Expresses His Displeasure with Obi’s Remarks In a recent TV interview, Okupe voiced his dissatisfaction with Obi’s statements, saying, “When Obi made that statement, it insulted us. I am a Yoruba man; I left everything and followed him.” Okupe explained that he had supported Obi in the past because he shared the belief that a southern president was needed, and he had hoped the South-East would be chosen for the role.
