Transport Minister Urges Governors to Follow Lagos’ Example with Red Line Rail

The Red Line rail project’s success in Lagos State, as highlighted by Minister of Transport Mr. Sa’id Alkali, reveals the importance of federal-state collaboration.
Alkali emphasized that such cooperation between governments significantly benefits the nation’s well-being and economy.
Speaking at the official commissioning of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line by President Bola Tinubu, the transport minister praised the joint efforts of Lagos State and the federal government in realizing this milestone.
He urged other states to follow Lagos’ example and assured them of the Ministry of Transportation’s support in achieving similar projects.
Additionally, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Mr. Cui Jianchun lauded Nigeria for allowing completion of the Blue Line project, foreseeing its positive impact on the country’s development.
Deputy Governor of Lagos State Dr. Obafemi Hamzat credited President Tinubu’s vision, particularly his establishment of the Lagos State Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), for making the Red Line project a reality
The Red Line, spanning 37km from Agbado to Marina, with 11 stations, aims to significantly improve transportation in Lagos.
It will operate on international standard gauge and is projected to carry a substantial number of passengers daily, with full operational capacity expected to serve over a million passengers daily.
The project is entirely funded by the Lagos State Government through a development loan syndication from domestic commercial banks.
