Electricity DisCos Increase Meter Prices for the Second Time in Four Months
Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria have announced an increase in the prices of different types of electricity meters, marking the second price hike in just four months. The price of a single-phase meter has increased from around N117,000 to as high as N149,800, with the exact cost depending on the specific distribution company and meter supplier.
The new prices are set to take effect on November 5, 2024, and are a result of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) directive to deregulate the Meter Asset Providers (MAP) sector. This price adjustment follows a similar increase in August 2024, which has raised further concerns among electricity consumers regarding the affordability and availability of meters.
According to Nairametrics’ investigation, meter prices differ across DisCos, based on the vendor and the type of meter (single-phase or three-phase). The new prices, which include VAT, reflect this variation.
