Teacher Suspended After Allegedly Inflicting Fatal Caning and Excessive Punishment on Student in Ogun
The Ogun State Government has suspended a teacher accused of beating Monday Arijo, a student at Obada Grammar School, leading to his tragic death. Reports indicate that the teacher punished the 16-year-old with 24 strikes of a cane and demanded he complete 162 frog jumps after the student made a statement that upset him.
The incident occurred on a Friday and resulted in the teacher’s immediate arrest. Additionally, the school principal, Mrs. Tamrat Onaolapo, is under scrutiny for permitting corporal punishment in violation of state regulations. She has been given 24 hours to explain her actions and face potential disciplinary measures.
In a statement from Governor Dapo Abiodun’s office, it was confirmed that the teacher has been suspended, and a condolence letter was sent to the grieving family, expressing sympathy for their loss and pledging to seek justice. The letter highlighted Monday as an exceptional student who will be greatly missed by his peers and the school community.
