Rihanna Shares Insights on Her Sons’ Opposing Personalities

Singer and business mogul Rihanna has opened up about her two sons, RZA and Riot, revealing that they have strikingly different personalities.

Speaking with Harper’s Bazaar, Rihanna described her firstborn, RZA, as an empathetic and magical child with a deep love for music, books, and water. “He loves melody. He loves bath time, swimming, the pool, the beach—anything,” she shared.

On the other hand, her younger son, Riot, is full of energy and excitement from the moment he wakes up. “He’s just hilarious. When he wakes up, he starts to squeal, scream—not in a crying way, he just wants to sing. He’s my alarm in the morning! He’s not taking no for an answer from anyone,” she said.

Rihanna, who shares her two boys with rapper A$AP Rocky, also reflected on how RZA initially struggled with having a younger sibling. However, the dynamic has shifted, and Riot now confidently takes charge. “At first, Riot understood that his role was being the little brother. Now he knows he’s in charge,” she added.

The couple, romantically linked since 2020, named their second son Riot after a song Rocky collaborated on with Pharrell Williams in 2023. Rihanna revealed that Pharrell suggested the name thinking they were having a girl, inspired by something he had seen online.

Praising A$AP Rocky’s role as a father, Rihanna gushed, “Watching him be a father is the greatest thing. His pureness, his charm. I’m annoyed because my sons sometimes just live for him more than they live for me. And I’m like, ‘Do you know who cooked you? Do you know who pushed you out?’ But when I see their bond, oh, it’s the best.”
