Folarin Falana, professionally known as Falz, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, and lawyer. He was born on October 27, 1990, in Lagos State, Nigeria. He is the son of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and completed his law degree at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom before being called to the Nigerian Bar.
Falz began his music career in the early 2010s and gained widespread recognition with singles such as Marry Me, Karishika, and Soft Work. He has since released several critically acclaimed projects, including Wazup Guy, Stories That Touch, Moral Instruction, Bahd, and Before the Feast, earning a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most socially conscious musicians.
In addition to music, Falz has built a successful acting career, starring in numerous Nollywood productions including Jenifa’s Diary, Chief Daddy, and Brotherhood. His 2018 protest song This Is Nigeria, inspired by Childish Gambino’s This Is America, received widespread acclaim for its commentary on corruption, insecurity, and social issues in Nigeria.
Known for blending hip-hop, Afropop, satire, and activism, Falz remains one of the most influential voices in contemporary Nigerian entertainment.
