Borussia Dortmund Part Ways with Nuri Sahin After Seven Months as Head Coach

German football club Borussia Dortmund has announced the dismissal of manager Nuri Sahin just seven months into his tenure. The decision followed a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Bologna on Tuesday night, leaving the team struggling in the Bundesliga.
Reports from Sky Germany and Bild indicate that the decision was conveyed to Sahin, his team, and coaching staff at the Dortmund team hotel in Bologna shortly after the match.
In a statement, Dortmund’s sporting director Lars Ricken expressed regret over the decision:
*”We value Nuri Sahin and his work very much. We hoped for a long-term collaboration and, until the end, we believed in achieving a sporting turnaround together.
However, after four consecutive defeats, only one win in the last nine games, and currently sitting tenth in the Bundesliga table, we have unfortunately lost faith in being able to achieve our sporting goals in the current constellation. This decision hurts me personally, but it was unavoidable after the game in Bologna.”*
Sahin, a former Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid midfielder, was appointed with high hopes of revitalizing the team. However, the recent string of poor results proved to be a critical factor in the club’s decision to move in a different direction.
